Evils of Communism Act
February 25, 2022
Senate Bill 206, Comparative Political Ideology Instruction, was heard in the Senate Education Committee in January.
This bill calls for a discussion of political ideologies, including communism and totalitarianism, which conflict with the principles of freedom and democracy.
Among other objectives the bill’s purpose would be to develop a recognition of and acceptance of the responsibility for preserving and defending the blessings of liberty inherited from prior generations and secured by the United States Constitution.
Although my bill did not make it out of committee, the Education Committee chair, Senator Laura Sturgeon, did say she would be willing to work with me to make the requirements of the bill more “palatable” for further consideration.
I hope to revisit the Senate Education Committee with a Senate Substitute bill for SB 206 after working on revisions to the bill with Senator Sturgeon and others, including those from the Delaware Dept. of Education.
I want students to be able to hear the personal stories of victims of other nations’ governing philosophies and compare those philosophies with those of the United States.
Our young people should understand that protection of our rights depends on an knowledge of the benefits of living under our Constitution.
